Smartly, Light It Up brings back supporting characters from the first two Peter Ash books to provide a team to root for. The crimes in the third novel seem simple at first: A well-organized party is robbing a cannabis grower's cash-rich security trucks. But sophisticated, realistic secrets at work in the background make this movie-ready thriller rise above the smoke screen and the common beach read. Delectable research gives authenticity to the Colorado growing scene, antique and contemporary weapons trade, and real-estate espionage. Importantly, the book isn't political about legalized drugs--it tells a story without preaching. As is a hallmark of the series, attention to the difficulties service members face when returning home from combat is notable.

Marine vet Peter Ash goes to Denver to help out Henry Nygaard, a buddy he met in the Northwest. Henry’s daughter has a protection company, helping cannabis growers protect their hauls in what, due to the lack of legal status on the federal level, is mostly an all-cash business. The problem is that one of Heavy Metal Protections trucks has disappeared, along with one of the owners and the operations manager, so Henry, Peter, and two other vets are called in for extra security on the next run. Let’s just say things don’t go well, and Peter not only has to figure out what happened, but also must avenge some deaths. Peter’s code of honor puts looking out for your buddies a top priority and that theme runs throughout the book, playing out both positively and negatively. But don’t let thematic undertones scare you into thinking Light It Up isn’t all about excitement. The story is one action-packed scene after the next, to the extent that I was holding on to my book so tightly that I ripped out a chunk of a page!

Description

"Lots of characters get compared to my own Jack Reacher, but Petrie's Peter Ash is the real deal."--Lee Child

In the newest action-packed thriller starring war veteran Peter Ash, a well-planned and flawlessly executed hijacking reveals the hidden dangers of Colorado's mellowest business, but Ash may find there's more to this crime than meets the eye.

Combat veteran Peter Ash leaves a simple life rebuilding hiking trails in Oregon to help his good friend Henry Nygaard, whose daughter runs a Denver security company that protects cash-rich cannabis entrepreneurs from modern-day highwaymen. Henry's son-in-law and the company's operations manager were carrying a large sum of client money when their vehicle vanished without a trace, leaving Henry's daughter and her company vulnerable.

Then, when Peter is riding shotgun on another cash run, the cargo he's guarding comes under attack from hijackers and he narrowly escapes with his life. As the incidents mount, he has to wonder: For criminals as sophisticated as these, is this money really worth the risk? And if not, what about his cargo is worth more?

Praise For…

Praise for Light It Up

“Gun battles, harrowing high-speed escapes and lethal hand-to-hand fights...Petrie colors in more of the portrait of his troubled hero, including his darkest moment in the Middle East. Ash's posse is coalescing, too, including June, the savvy reporter he fell for in Burning Bright, and Lewis, the smooth but equally lethal compadre whose friendship with Ash has a Spenser-Hawk vibe....Light It Up extends a quality action series with plenty of room ahead both for new adventures and character development.”—Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

“Like Robert Parker’s Spenser, Ash is a self-contained, unstoppable force with very useful friends. Vividly troubled yet likable, he intrigues the reader even while managing to save a little part of his world—again. The action in this third outing is nonstop; the drug scene is timely; the characters, including the villains, are deftly drawn, and the tension keeps rising.”—Library Journal

“Propulsive...Petrie is a master of orchestrating convincing mayhem.”—Publishers Weekly
